Parida (Ph.D., MBA)
Gyan Parida, is the Managing Partner at SAEC Venture
Advisors. He has over 18 years of experience including more than
10 years in VC and start-ups in Technology, Web2, Social Media,
Biotech, Life Sciences, Medical Devices, Healthcare, Alt-energy,
and Clean-tech space. Gyan was also the Chairman of Global
Ventures Congress in technology
and life sciences
. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Graziadio School
of Business and Management, Pepperdine University where he teaches
the MBA Entrepreneurial Finance course. He is also a Task Force
member of the World Economic Forum's Sustainable Transport Ecosystem
For the last few years, he has been primarily focused
in the technology social media investment space. Long before technology
accelerator was HOT, he developed and used the same model in 1999
while building SAEC.
Gyan is the founder and President of Silicon
Alley Entrepreneurs Club (SAEC) of New York, which he grew
from 1 to 44,000+ members making it the largest such organization
in the country. He personally financed more than 95% of SAEC operating
expenses since its inception in 1999, providing "free"
help to entrepreneurs. His passion for helping young entrepreneurs
Gyan has evaluated more than 2000 business plans
and presented many companies to investors that lead to more than
$200M in funding. He has advised start-up companies in all aspects
of business development and funding issues. Gyan is an educator,
speaker and moderator for entrepreneur/investor conferences. Gyan
has also advised international government agencies to attract
and access US private equity funds.
Prior to working in VC/Startup space, Gyan was a
scientist/professor at various Universities including Rutgers
University, University of Iowa, and Southern Methodist University.
He discovered the first multiple cyclic Voltammogram in electrochemical
system. He is also one of the directors of research that led to
the development of a minimally invasive treatment of prostate
cancer. He has published peer-reviewed papers in international
journals, and member of reputable associations. He has worked
on various scientific research projects in fuel cells, batteries,
environment pollution, pollution protection on oil spills, liquid
propellant for rocket launchers, non-linear dynamics, chaos theory,
corrosion protection, implant development for prostate cancer,
biochemistry and biomedical engineering. He was one of the senior
executives at New York Mercantine Exchange to develop and deploy
the $180M state-of-the-art trade management system.
Gyan has a Ph.D in Chemistry and MBA in investment
and MIS. He has also completed a program on International Business
from University of Manchester, England. In addition, he has completed
executive management programs from MIT on M&A and Strategy.
For his work at SAEC he was chosen as 1 of 3 US National Finalist
for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Kauffman
National Supporter of Entrepreneurship Award.
